Cornerstone laid for ‘Quilonga Grande’ water supply in Angola

On 28 February 2025, the cornerstone was ceremoniously laid for one of the most important water supply projects in Angola: Quilonga Grande - System V - Lote Q2

The laying of the foundation stone was also the official starting signal for the project commissioned by the Empresa Pública de Águas (EPAL - E.P.). It is part of the national ‘Water Supply Masterplan’ and is being implemented by an international consortium consisting of CNT BAU GmbH, GAUFF GmbH & Co. Engineering KG, CASAIS Angola and OPAIA.

Once completed, Quilonga Grande - System V - Lote Q2 will supply clean drinking water to the province of Icolo e Bengo and the north-eastern areas of Luanda, thereby ensuring security of supply for five million people. The region is experiencing strong population growth, while the existing infrastructure is no longer able to meet the increasing demand.

The key data for Quilonga Grande - System V - Lote Q2:

  • 518,000 m³ of drinking water per day will flow through the transport pipelines
  • 110 km of transport water pipes with diameters ranging from DN 500 to DN 1600
  • 11 distribution centres with a storage capacity of 283,600 m³ will be connected
  • 5 million people will be provided with drinking water
  • Financing is ensured by the German credit line

Within the consortium, GAUFF Engineering is responsible for planning, quality control, environmental and social issues as well as the procurement of armatures and pipe fittings. With our expertise, we ensure the highest international standards in implementation.

The project will not only improve the water supply but also provide economic impulses: Around 300 direct jobs will be created and over 90 skilled workers will be trained in various areas. Sustainable solutions are also being emphasised - imported wooden pallets are being recycled into furniture for schools and public facilities.

The project will take 33 months to be constructed and is scheduled for completion in 2027. With the successful laying of the cornerstone, a decisive step has been taken to ensure a sustainable and future-orientated water supply for Angola's population.

We are delighted to be actively involved in this important infrastructure project and to contribute to improving the quality of life in Angola!
