Electrification of 300 villages in Senegal

GAUFF Engineering is assigned to plan and realise a decentralised solar power supply for 300 villages in Senegal. The 120 million EUR contract for the project was signed by the director general of the agency for rural power supply (ASER), Baba Diallo, and Uwe Gauff, the main shareholder of GAUFF Engineering, in Dakar on the 29/08/2018 on the occasion of  a visit of the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel to West-Africa.

The electrification of the villages is an important step towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly development of the rural areas in Senegal. In each of the 300 villages a photovoltaic system, including battery storage, LED street lights, low voltage lines for power distribution as well as private connections shall be installed. The majority of the components and equipment will be delivered from Germany. Furthermore, local skilled staff shall be trained so that they will be able to secure the smooth running and maintenance of the plants. GAUFF Engineering will organise and perform this training in cooperation with GIZ (German society for international cooperation)

This important development project is financed by KFW IPEX-Bank, a 100 % subsidiary of KfW.

After signature, Uwe Gauff seized the opportunity to  discuss with the president of the Republic of Senegal, H. E. Macky Sall,  further future projects for the country in which the president would appreciate a participation of GAUFF Engineering, as he intends to increase the cooperation with Germany generally.
