G20-CwA Summit – Large scale projects in the Ivory Coast

In the course of the second summit conference of the G20-Compact with Africa (CwA) countries on November 19th, 2019 in Berlin, GAUFF Engineering has been mandated with two large scale projects in the Ivory Coast (Republic of Côte d’Ivoire) in the presence of chancellor Merkel and twelve African heads of State. The Minister of Finances of the Republic, Mr Adama Coulibaly, and the majority shareholder of GAUFF Engineering, Mr Uwe Gauff, signed the delivery and performance contract for a project concerning a drainage system for the capital city Abidjan as well as a project for road maintenance and rural road construction amounting to a total volume of EUR 327 million. Minister Coulibaly concluded also a credit facility agreement with KfW IPEX amounting to EUR 500 million in order to finance this and further projects.

Bearing in mind the terrible flooding of 2017, GAUFF Engineering developed the drainage project for Abidjan along with the “Ministère de l’Assainissement et de la Salubrité” (MINASS), in order to avoid such disasters in the future. For this purpose, among others, new drainage channels as well as retention basins will have to be created, as per contract.

The second project is going to include a total of four service centers throughout the country for the maintenance of the existing roads and for the construction of new ones. In that context, existing facilities of the pioneers are going to be rededicated and converted, and

equipped with construction machinery. The pioneers themselves are going to be trained by GAUFF Engineering and given basic skills from an engineering point of view for the rural road and bridge construction.

Therewith, both projects contribute significantly to ensure an appropriate standard of living and the sustainable development of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.
