More freight on the rails - Kick-off for the new InterFranken freight transport centre

On February 7th, 2025, the official kick-off for the „New construction of the freight transport centre/CT Terminal InterFranken“ project took place at the town hall in Schopfloch. ‘InterFranken’ is a special-purpose association founded by the municipalities of Diebach, Dombuehl, Feuchtwangen, Schillingsfuerst, Schnelldorf, Schopfloch, Wettringen and Woernitz to jointly plan and develop an industrial/commercial park with a freight service centre (FSC).

The FSC will be connected to supra-regional traffic by an interchange and is ideally located on the A6 and A7 autobahns as well as close to the German railway network. The strategic location of InterFranken is particularly significant, as there is currently no terminal infrastructure on either side of the Bavaria-Baden Württemberg border to transfer goods from road to rail.

In January 2025, the ‘GAUFF Engineering / OBERMEYER Infrastruktur’ working group was commissioned to plan the project, with GAUFF Engineering being responsible for planning the transport facilities and OBERMEYER Infrastruktur for the rail infrastructure.

In the business unit “road”, this includes the internal development in the terminal area as well as storage surfaces for containers. For the railway systems, the connection of the terminal to the DB InfraGO line as well as installation and bypass tracks are to be planned.

The plans for the first stage are the groundwork for the further development and promotion of the FSC InterFranken, which is a supporting factor in sustainably securing the economic future of the location.

We look forward to the successful realisation of this important project for the region!
