Official inauguration of construction site of OMVG substation in The Gambia

On February 23rd 2019 The Gambia`s President Adama Barrow has officially laid the foundation stone of the Gambia River Basin Development Organisation's (OMVG) Energy Project's Interconnection Component.

The inauguration ceremony took place in Jarra Soma, The Gambia, where one of the total 15 future substations will be erected. Of these substations, two are going to be built in The Gambia, five in Guinea Conakry, four in Guinea-Bissau and four in Senegal.

In his speech the President noted the importance of electricity for the development of OMVG´s member countries. Apart from President Barrow, there were also representatives of local and regional authorities as well as the Minister of Energy of The Gambia, Fafa Sanyang, participating at the ceremony.

OMVG assigned GAUFF Engineering as the Client´s representative for the implementation and construction of this important energy project, including the "Sambangalou" hydroelectric power plant, its high-voltage transmission network, and the corresponding infrastructure. The overall project is one of the largest energy projects in Africa and is supplying four countries with renewable energies.

Soma substation is part of the interconnection between Senegal, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia through a 225kV HV line of approx. 1.677 km with the energy produced by various hydropower stations.
