Over 50% of the road from Mussende to Cangandala rehabilitated

On 20 September 2024, Dr Carlos Alberto da Silva Gregório dos Santos, Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, accompanied by the Governor of Kwanza-Sul Province, Dr Mara Regina da Silva Baptista Domingos Quiosa, visited the construction site for the rehabilitation of the EN140 National Road in Mussende. The Secretary of State for public works, Manuel José da Costa Molares D'Abril, the Director General of the Angolan Institute of Road Engineering (INEA), Henrique Victorino, and other representatives of the authorities completed the high-ranking delegation.

In Mussende, they were received by representatives of the project consortium in which GAUFF Engineering is coordinating and implementing the reconstruction of the previously barely passable EN 140 together with QG Konstruktion GmbH. GAUFF Engineering is not only responsible for the planning, project management and quality assurance, but has also arranged the financing of the project totalling 84.27 million euros.

From Mussende, the section of the EN140 road to be rehabilitated leads via the communities of Quarenta and Porto Condo to Cangandala. These 98 kilometres of road not only connect the adjacent villages, but also the two provinces of Kwanza Sul and Malanje. Currently, over 50 per cent of the road has already been completed.

The delegation was extremely satisfied with the progress of the construction work and emphasised the importance of the road for the neighbouring population and the economic development of the entire country. The delegation then visited the project's quarry, located at kilometre 15, where the concrete and asphalt plants have also been set up.

With its extensive know-how and experience in large-scale projects, GAUFF Engineering has played a key role in modernising and strengthening the road infrastructure in Angola for decades. This project is another example of our commitment to contributing to a sustainable future for the country.

In addition to the reconstruction and paving of the road, the scope of works also includes the drainage systems, bridges, the installation of modern signage and the construction of 51 hydraulic passages.
A total of around one million cubic metres of soil will be moved as part of the restoration.

The road, the rehabilitation of which was started in April 2023, is expected to be ceremoniously inaugurated in November 2025.
