Progress in electrification in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
On 2 April 2026, a significant milestone was reached for energy supply in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC): GAUFF Engineering and the national electrification agency ANSER (Agence Nationale de l’Électrification et des Services Énergétiques en milieux rural et périurbain) signed a major contract for rural electrification in Kinshasa.
The signing of this so-called “project market contract” by ANSER’s Director General, Cyprien Musimar, marks the successful completion of the project preparation phase. Following the signing of the EPPM contract (Engineering, Procurement, Project Management) in Berlin back in March this year, it also includes the approval of the project contract by the relevant procurement authority (DGCMP). The conclusion of the financing agreement for 150 million euros is expected at short notice.
The objective of the project is to sustainably improve living conditions for the local population by providing a reliable electricity supply. The focus is on the decentralised electrification of a total of 36 areas using photovoltaic systems with energy storage, which are intended to provide reliable access to energy.
Through this project, GAUFF Engineering is contributing significantly to the promotion of sustainable infrastructure and the improvement of energy supply in areas that have previously been undersupplied. At the same time, the initiative represents a further step towards ‘energy for all’ and is supporting the economic and social development of the region.
We are delighted and proud to be working alongside strong partners to implement this pioneering project.
