Background
In order to provide long-term and reliable cover for the increasing electrical energy demand, the Gabon government has established a plan to develop the hydro power sector. One significant part of this development plan is the construction of a hydroelectric power plant at the "Chutes de FE2" waterfalls on the Okano river in the Woleu-Ntem province. This should provide power to the Woleu-Ntem province, Ndjolé and the capital city Libreville.
Project
The FE2 waterfall is located on the Okano river to the south east of Mitzic in the province of Woleu-Ntem in north east Gabon. Characteristic for this section of the river are two sequential waterfalls on a stretch of approx. 2,150 m and with a height difference totalling 88 m. The China Gezhouba Group Company Limited (CGGC-Group) are to construct a hydroelectric power station here with a total production capacity of 36 MW. This power is to be produced by three vertical axial Francis turbines, each rated at 12 MW. GAUFF Engineering provided guidance and support to the Gabon energy ministry with the visual inspection and assessment of the proposal and planning documents and the construction contract.
