Background
The Burgwald barracks in Frankenberg (Eder) were previously supplied via a shared drinking water and firefighting water network. The supply network was in need of rehabilitation and did not comply with the applicable requirements of the construction guidelines for the implementation of construction measures by the German Armed Forces. As part of the renovation, the drinking water network was to be separated from the fire-fighting water network for hygiene -related aspects and the fire-fighting water supply was to be expanded in accordance with the BFR requirements.
Project
GAUFF Engineering was commissioned by Landesbetrieb Bau und Immobilien Hessen (LBIH) to plan the new drinking water and fire-fighting water system on the Burgwald-Kaserne property.
The drinking water and fire-fighting water networks were completely renewed and built separately from each other. In addition, the drinking water network was dimensioned to the actual drinking water requirements of the property in order to avoid hygiene problems in the future. A network-independent pressure boosting system for drinking water was also installed.
The redesign and renovation of the fire water supply system will ensure that fire safety in all areas of the property complies with BFR requirements. In future, a separate fire water network with hydrants and a network-independent fire water pumping station will be available for the fire water supply.
A total of around 6.2 km of water pipes with nominal diameters of DN 32 – DN 200 were laid, and a fire water pumping station and a drinking water pressure boosting system were constructed. The pumping stations can be operated independently of the mains supply via emergency power systems in the event of a power failure. The central water supply continues to be provided by the local provider EGF (EnergieGesellschaft Frankenberg).
