Background
Pakistan's government has set the pace for the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB), calling on it to have renewable energy sources, e.g. water, wind, sun or biomass, to account for a total of 5% of energy demand by the year 2030. In line with this, the Punjab government commissioned a feasibility study under the PPTA programme (technical support) by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in which the consultants confirmed the feasibility of the above hydropower projects.
Project
The five run-of-river power stations are located in Pakistan's Punjab province and will be built in existing river courses or irrigation channels. Energy generation will total approximately 25MW. This will boost socio-economic development in the region.
