Three framework contracts for the expansion and further development of Leipzig/Halle Airport

Deutsche Post DHL's freight hub at Leipzig/Halle Airport is the largest hub within its global network. Since 2008, DHL has been operating a warehouse here with all the necessary handling facilities for air and land transport. In addition, there are the transshipment points for freight, traffic areas and administrative buildings.

DHL's traffic volume increased to such an extent between 2008 and 2018 that the apron positions available at Leipzig/Halle Airport are no longer sufficient. By 2032, a further significant increase in cargo volumes and flight movements is expected. For this reason, the apron "Apron 4" is to be extended to the east in accordance with the demand for apron positions determined for the year 2032. This entails further conversions and extensions to existing taxiways to ensure operating procedures.

The working group GAUFF GmbH & Co. Engineering K G – act consult AG was commissioned with the planning services on the basis of a framework agreement with Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH in May 2021.

Based on the apron utilization concept that has to be developed, around 525,000 m² of flight operations area in concrete including terrain modelling, 17,000 m² of asphalt surfaces, the drainage systems for surface water drainage and treatment, the drinking/extinguishing water supply, aircraft de-icing positions and the shaft and route systems for the supply of energy and telecommunications have to be planned. Construction work on the comprehensive Apron 4 extension is expected to be completed in 2024.

In addition, GAUFF Engineering was able to win two further framework contracts with Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH in September 2021. This involves engineering services for the concepts of the networks North "Secondary Drainage" and "Higher-level Planning Coordination".
